I am a hematologist and medical oncologist who specializes in the care of patients who need a bone marrow transplant (BMT) or cellular therapy (such as chimeric antigen receptor or “CAR” T-cell treatment). Bone marrow transplant, also known as hematopoietic stem cell transplant, is when blood forming stem cells are transplanted using the patients’ own cell, donor cells, or saved umbilical cord blood. These treatments are used for cancerous (malignant) or non-cancerous but serious medical conditions. These include leukemias (acute myeloid leukemia, chronic myeloid leukemia, acute lymphocytic leukemia, chronic lymphocytic leukemia), lymphomas, multiple myeloma, myelofibrosis, myeloproliferative neoplasms, myelodysplastic syndromes, aplastic anemia, among others. A diagnosis with any of these conditions is daunting and can leave patients feeling very anxious, vulnerable, and unsure of what to expect and what to do. I strive to build an empathic connection with my patients where their questions are answered, their fears are alleviated, and in which they can fully understand their condition and what the best treatment options are for them. My colleagues and I strive to deliver treatment options that are on the forefront of medical research. As part of a multidisciplinary team, we all strive to deliver a comprehensive assessment and treatment plan for each patient. My research interests focus on the prevention and treatment of complications following BMT and CAR T cell therapies. My goal is to bring the latest advancements in medicine to my patients. As a New York City-native and CUNY alumnus, I am also passionate about equitable access to care, and ensuring all communities of the NYC metropolitan area, especially underserved communities and those with unmet needs, can get access to care and to the cutting edge cancer treatments that we have available at ÇÑ×ÓÖ±²¥ and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.
